2022 Ordo Kalendar
10 x 12 & 5/8 inches
12 pages with hole punch for hanging
This year’s Kalendar features art from medieval Books of Hours. In the Western Church during the Late Middle Ages, Books of Hours, or horae, were common manuals of devotion, with thousands of examples still surviving in libraries, museums, and private collections. Derived ultimately from the Psalter, these horae were a simplified version of the Breviary, the book that contained the Divine Office as recited by the monastic and fraternal orders. Though no two Books of Hours were alike, this pared-down version of the Divine Office generally contained some combination of excerpts from the Gospels, the Hours of the Virgin, the Seven Penitential Psalms, the Litany of the Saints, and the Office of the Dead.
The images in this Kalendar are taken from horae in the British Library’s manuscript collection, which are now available in the public domain:
In presenting them here, it is hoped that they might be as much an inspiration to the faithful of this generation as they were to generations past.
